Hiking without baggage - Main - Spessart - Odenwald tour
Going on shank´s mare - uphill and downhill through the beautiful forests of our region
1st day
Arrival in Wertheim. Check-in in your hotel. Welcome drink and distribution of tour documents. Tour of the historic old town.
2nd day
We cross the natural county border, the river Main, and walk to Kreuzwertheim, our Bavarian neighbor. At the Fürstin Wanda House we turn left and follow the signs (red dot on white background), which lead us to Wiebelbach. We cross the road and walk down to Hasloch. After a short trip to the Kartause Grünau (trout nursery) and maybe to the "last iron mill of the Spessart" (Mo - Fr) we reach our today's destination Schollbrunn.
3rd day
After a "Spessart breakfast" we enter the legendary Spessart forests and visit the memorial of the last Spessart poacher "Hasenstab". Then we follow the trail downhill to Altenbuch, where we recommend a lunch break. After that our trail winds its way up to the "Maßkannenstein". Passing "Dreifaltigkeitslärche" and "Nonnenstein" we walk downhill again through a charming valley to our destination Collenberg.
4th day
Again today's motto is: up and down! Shortly after Collenberg we reach the Chapel of St. Mary up on a hill - with a wonderful view to the Main valley and the Freudenberg lakes. We pass a nature reserve and down in the valley we reach the county border. We cross the Main bridge to Freudenberg. A break for sight-seeing and lunch is recommended. (See tour documents!)
Then we walk uphill in the foothills of the Odenwald. On a ridgeway we reach Boxtal where we spend the night in a cosy guesthouse.
5th day
Our today's tour leads us up into the Odenwald hills. On the sign-marked trail (blue "M") we hike towards our final destination: Wertheim - the romantic town on the rivers Main and Tauber. On our way we may stop in Mondfeld or Grünenwört! (See tour documents!)
6th day
Before you leave Wertheim today you might like to go for a little shopping tour in the medieval town, visit our wine-growing villages nearby or the well-known "alfi Commercial Center" or you might plan a visit to "Wertheim Village", one of the most attractive outlet centers in Europe.
